In latin Guadete means “rejoice” this third week of Advent is rejoicing with Joy. The priest will be wearing pink vestments at mass and light the third candle of the advent wreath which is also pink. The pink or rose color represents the future peace and joy promised by Jesus. This week we look forward with patience for this prophecy to come true.
However, for many, this time of year can be filled with the opposite of joy such as pain and depression. Christmas is a time we usually spend with family and loved ones and for those that are suffering due to loss it can be especially difficult and painful. I’m sure that many of you remember the six-year-old little girl Emily Parker, who died in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre. Her mother put together this short video sharing how she was able to endure and overcome her grief. Their family’s story of finding joy through their pain is heartwarming and inspirational. Although we all grieve at our own pace and advent is a time to wait patiently without rushing, this story can definitely help you feel better even if you have not experienced a loss this year. She answers the questions of evil and how it appeared to win and where God was at the time of such horrific events. This is well worth watching and my prayers is that it will restore hope and joy to you this third week of Advent.
