WORDS RELEASE THE POWER OF OUR FAITH

david-and-goliath1

How often do our words release what we believe, even when we pretend to believe something that’s not true? My adopted son has had one disappointment after another in his young life. Whenever something good is about to happen to him, he will release words of unbelief and coincidently that very statement overrides the predicted good thing from happening. Like a magnet he draws what he believes or has learned to expect to himself. Our thoughts are the best barometers of the object of our faith. Faith is a process that works in releasing life-changing power in either a positive or negative direction.

For example, have you ever noticed how much more tired you feel after yawning and saying, “I’m so tired?” You feel more tired because your Self-Talk has just released power in the direction of tiredness. How about the statement, I was around that baby that was sick and now I know I am going to get sick and then boom!! you have a full blown cold. Sometimes we tell ourselves on Monday that our week is going to be slow and rough and then it is, because we spoke it into being. I believe we have the power to make our fears reality. Have you ever heard of the author Maria Vadia? She wrote a book on “there’s Power In Your Tongue” and in this book she says, “Where do you want to go with your life? Do you want to keep going in circles, never entering into the promise of God? TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR TONGUE! Do you want to serve God effectively? TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR TONGUE! Do you want to experience God’s blessings in every area of your life? START USING YOUR TONGUE FOR LIFE AND NOT DEATH ! ” James 3:2-4 says our tongue is like the bit of a horse’s mouth and like the rudder of a ship; depending on how we use it we will or will not make it to our destination. It depends on how we control it.

There are plenty of examples in scripture where people spoke unbelief and it manifested. Matthew 12:36 ” I tell you, on the day of judgement men will render account for every careless word you utter; for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”Wow! that’s pretty terrifying. You can use your words for negative or positive. Why not bless with your mouth?Awhile back I came across this reflective scriptural comparison by, live holiness author Fr. Mike Najim, I’m copying some of it here for you in these next few paragraphs.

In the Gospel of Matthew there is an interesting contrast made regarding 3 miracles. In chapter 8 a centurion comes to Jesus and tells him about his servant, who is paralyzed and in terrible distress. Jesus offers to go and heal the servant, but the centurion says, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; but only say the word, and my servant will be healed’ (v.8). Jesus marvels at the man’s faith and says, “Go; be it done for you as you have believed” (v.13) and the servant is healed.

In chapter 9 a ruler comes to Jesus and says, “My daughter has just died; but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live” (v.18). Later in the chapter we read that Jesus goes to the house, puts his hand on her hand, and she lives. While going to the ruler’s house, he is interrupted by a woman who has been bleeding for twelve years. The woman says to herself (using Self-Talk), “If I only touch his garment, I shall be made well” (v.21). As she touches his garment, power flows out of Jesus and she becomes well.

Three miracles, each taking place in a different way. In each one, Jesus could have said what he said to the centurion, “Be it done for you as you have believed.” What they believe what they say in their thoughts or with their mouth, determines how Jesus performs the miracle. The centurion says, “Don’t bother coming to my house, just say the word.” The ruler says, “Come and put your hand on her.” And the woman tells herself, “I must touch his garment.” And what they believe is what they see take place! Great power is released by our thoughts and our words.

The book of Proverbs expands on this theme. Proverbs 6:2 points out that we can be “snared in the utterance of (our) lips, caught in the words of (our) mouth.” Therefore, be careful what you say. Solomon writes in Proverbs 10:24, “what the wicked dreads will come upon him, but the desire of the righteous will be granted.” Be careful, he is saying, because what we think and say have a way of coming true.

David used his words against the giant in a positive way. Instead of looking at the giant negatively as the others had, he looked at him and said, Yea! your big, but my God is bigger and you do not follow him and I do, therefore you are weak. With that he destroyed the giant. He focused on the positive and not the negative. The negative would have increased his fears to become giant over his belief system and his God.

victory over fearsBefore almost every healing Jesus performed  he said, “let it be done to you according to your faith” he often asked, “do you believe you can be healed?”  and “do you want to be healed?” he recognized the power behind their words and their words revealed what they believed. Consider this the next time you feel you should be getting a headache, or that someone else will get the promotion over you, because that is what always happens to you. You get what you expect, you expect what you believe. Break the pattern, break the cycle, believe and manifest the power of your words. Let your faith release the victory!
